Michigan Equine Grant Program 2026: Up to $125,000 Available for Horse Racing and Equine Projects
Organizations working to strengthen Michigan's equine industry can apply for funding through the Michigan Equine Grant Program. Administered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) in partnership with the Michigan Horse Racing Advisory Commission (HRAC), the program supports projects that promote horse racing, advance equine research, improve aftercare, and benefit the state's equine community.

About the Grant
The Michigan Equine Grant Program was established under Michigan's Horse Racing Law of 1995 to encourage the growth and sustainability of the state's equine industry. The program is administered by MDARD alongside the Horse Racing Advisory Commission, which reviews applications and makes final funding decisions.
Grant Amount
The program provides up to $125,000 in total annual grant funding.
Funding is awarded on a cost reimbursement basis, meaning recipients are reimbursed for eligible project expenses after costs have been incurred. There is no matching fund requirement.
Applications are evaluated based on factors such as:Relevance to Michigan's horse racing industry, Clearly defined project purpose,Measurable outcomes, Long-term impact and Quality of the proposed work plan.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants include:
Horse owner organizations.
Horse breeder organizations.
Organizations that host or promote harness racing.
Other eligible equine organizations meeting program requirements.
Applicants must also:
Have been operating for at least two years.
Be in good standing with the State of Michigan.
Provide financial statements from the previous fiscal year.
Have submitted all required reports for any previous MDARD grants.
Be an owner, operator, or authorized representative of the applying organization.
