Freed Fellowship Grant: $500 Monthly and $2,500 Year-End for U.S. Small Business Owners
If you are a small business owner in the United States looking for funding that comes with genuine feedback and community support, the Freed Fellowship is worth knowing about. Every month one business owner is selected to receive a $500 no-strings-attached grant, a one-on-one strategy session, and access to a year of mentorship with the chance to win an additional $2,500 at the end of the year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Here is everything you need to know.

Who They Are
The Freed Fellowship is run by Freed Fellowship LLC, an organization built around a belief that most small business owners — particularly women, minorities, and other underrepresented founders — lack a consistent, reliable source of candid feedback and thought partnership. The program has been featured in CNBC, Motley Fool, and Founder Institute, and has supported businesses across a wide range of industries since its launch.
The Grant Amount
Every month one business is selected as a Freed Fellow and receives a $500 grant with no repayment required and no equity taken. Fellows are automatically considered for an additional $2,500 year-end grant, bringing the total potential award to $3,000. Every applicant, whether selected or not, receives a Freed Score and written recommendations based on a review of their business against the program's 5C Framework.
What You Get If Selected
Selected Fellows receive the $500 grant to use however they choose for their business, a 60-minute one-on-one strategy session with the Freed Founding Team valued at $1,000, an invitation to share their story on the Freed Stories Podcast, a one-year membership in the Freed Studio online community, and automatic eligibility for the $2,500 year-end grant.
Even applicants who are not selected receive business feedback in the form of their Freed Score and specific growth recommendations — which the program describes as the real value of applying regardless of outcome.
The 5C Framework
Every application is reviewed against the 5C Framework covering five components the program considers essential for business success. Context evaluates why the market is in your favor. Content assesses your core narrative and how compelling it is. Community asks whether you have found or created a community around your business. Chemistry looks at your special sauce — what makes your product, people, and process distinctive. Commerce examines how your business actually makes money. Demonstrating strength across all five areas significantly improves your application's competitiveness.
Who Is Eligible
Any micro or small business owner in the United States is eligible to apply. The program particularly encourages women, minorities, and other underrepresented or overlooked founders to apply. Nonprofits are not currently eligible.
The Application Fee
There is a $19 application fee. Freed Fellowship LLC is not a nonprofit and does not receive federal or foundation subsidies. The fee covers the cost of reviewing each application. The program recommends that applicants who cannot currently afford the fee wait until their business is in a better position, and notes they are working to develop a sponsorship or scholarship program for those who need financial support.
Deadline
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. To be considered for the grant in any given month, your application must be received by midnight Eastern Time on the last day of that month. Feedback is typically delivered by the end of the month following your application.
